The paintings of artist Hwang Ji-young embody the sensitivity of Korea. They do not confine themselves to the realm of traditional folk painting but instead present a unique world, reinterpreting our traditional art form of folk painting into a global language. In particular, her works are modern yet elegantly expressed, borrowing compositions from Western painting.Hwang, who enjoys capturing moments, may be blending tradition with recent trends in her works. The diverse objects she often uses—ceramics, books, brushes, hanging scrolls, frames, chairs, electric stands, sculptures, flowers and vases, easels, clocks, pistols—are eclectic yet harmoniously combine tradition and modernity. These objects are appropriately arranged against a red background, sparking the viewer's interest and providing a sense of vitality.
